Are you a teenager looking for places that hire at 15? Then, you’ve come to the right place.

That’s great news for parents and students. With Covid-19 devastating the economy, hundreds of thousands of families and individuals are having a very hard time financially. By getting a job, whether it’s full time or part time, kids can ease some of that hardship. It allows them to earn their own pocket money and not have to rely on parents for weekly allowance.

In this post, I’ll cover companies that hire 15-year-olds, ranging from fast food restaurants like McDonald’s to grocery stores like Giant Eagle.

In addition to giving you a list of companies that hire 15 year old kids, I’ll also cover side hustles, gigs and services and online jobs for teens that can be great sources of making some pocket money.

And, finally, I’ll go over some websites that pay you for doing really easy tasks that you may already do anyway like playing games on your phone or shopping online.

So, what age do you have to be to work in the US?

The Fair Labor Standards Act sets 14 years old as the minimum age for employment in the United States, but there are limits to the number of hours worked by minors under the age of 16 (but more about that in the FAQ section below).

Now, without further ado, let’s get onto that list!

Companies that Hire 15-Year-Olds Near You

Okay, so I’m going to start out with companies that hire 15-year-olds These are retail stores, eateries and other places that hire younger employees.

To make things easier for you – because we all want to save time and effort, right? – I’ve separated these companies by category. So you can easily find the type of job that you want!

Now, I have a really important note to make. While these companies sometimes hire people who’re younger, the age requirements for each place can vary from state to state. So in some states, these stores may not hire at 15, and in others they will. So make sure that you check the opportunities that are available in your particular state.

Restaurants that Hire at 15

Here are some restaurants that have been known to hire at 15.

1. McDonald’s

When I was in high school the go-to job for teenagers was working at McDonald’s and the same holds true today. The giant fast food restaurant still is one of the best ways to make money while in high school.

Since McDonald’s has more than 13,000 locations in the United States, it’s pretty likely you have a restaurant (or a few) near you.

McDonald’s hires people as young as 14, so if you’re fifteen, you may be able to find work at a local restaurant. While the restaurant franchises have varying policies on the age requirements for employees, many hire teens in states that allow it. There are lots of jobs available, like cleaning, cooking, serving customers, or working on the drive thru.

2. Burger King

Next on the list we have Burger King, which has more than 7,000 locations in the United States, with 580 locations in Texas alone. Although it mainly hires people who are 16 years old or older, in some states, the company will hire people as young as 14, depending on local regulations. So, it’s worth checking with Burger King restaurants near you if you’re looking for places that hire at 15. The restaurant will be able to confirm whether or not they hire at 15.

3. Taco Bell

There are more than 6,000 Taco Bell restaurants in the United States! So, it’s likely that you have a restaurant near you. Many locations will hire at 15 or even 14 years old.

The age requirement will vary by state though so check with your local Taco Bell restaurant for details.

4. Starbucks

Starbucks accounts for more than 8,000 company-operated and 6,000 licensed stores in the United States. Starbucks is seemingly everywhere, so it’s a good place to look for work as a teenager. While the hiring age at most Starbucks is 16, in Montana, Starbucks hires employees at 14 years old. So if you live in Montana, you may be able to work at your local Starbucks at 15. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until you’re sixteen.

5. Baskin Robbins

With more than 2,000 locations across the United States, you may be able to find a job at a Baskin Robbins near you. The company hires people as young as 14. You could be responsible for serving customers, preparing orders, cleaning, or restocking.

6. Ben and Jerry’s

You could find a job with Ben and Jerry’s which has more than 500 locations in the United States. The company hires 14-year-olds, so 15-year-olds can find work with the company too.

Tasks could include customer service, restocking, and cleaning.

7. Dairy Queen

Next on the list, we have Dairy Queen. With more than 4,000 locations across the country, you’re likely to find a job near you at Dairy Queen. The company hires people as young as 14 years of age, so if you’re 15, then you could get a job at one of the company’s stores. Jobs include things like cashier, cleaner, food preparation, and customer service.

8. Arby’s

With more than 3,000 locations across the United States, you may be able to find a local job at Arby’s. Your responsibilities could include taking orders, serving customers, cleaning, and preparing food.

9. KFC

There are more than 3,900 KFC restaurants in the United States, so you could get a job at your local restaurant. The store hires teenagers, and you could be responsible for things like customer service and cleaning. However, you may not be able to do every task in the store at 15 because of safety regulations which restrict the use of some cooking equipment to those who are at least 16 years old.

10. Boston Market

Boston Market has more than 300 locations in the US. It hires people as young as 15 years old. Just have a check on the site to see if there are any openings or ask at your local restaurant. Jobs could include preparing food, taking orders, and serving customers.

11. Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A has more than 2,500 locations across the country, so it’s worth checking if there are any openings near you. The company is known to hire people as young as 15 years old. The company offers a variety of jobs like dishwashing, serving customers, and preparing food.

12. Pizza Hut

Next on the list we have Pizza Hut. Now, there are around 6,600 locations across the United States, so again, it’s likely you have a restaurant near you where you could pick up some work.

It’s a popular chain known for it’s Italian-American cuisine, serving things like pizza and pasta. Pizza Hut hires workers as young as 15. There are lots of roles available like serving customers and food preparation.

13. Rita’s Italian Ice

Rita’s Italian Ice is an ice creamery which has more than 500 locations across the United States. The company hires people as young as 14, so if you’re 15, you could qualify for a job there. Like most of the restaurants on this list, jobs include openings for cashiers and servers.

14. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is a chain of ice cream parlors with more than 160 stores across the United States.

If you have a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream location near you, then you could get a job there. This could include serving ice cream or even making ice cream since the store is known for making its ice cream fresh in its stores.

15. California Pizza Kitchen

Next on the list we have the California Pizza Kitchen. With more than 250 locations in 32 United States and in 10 other countries, you may have a restaurant near you where you could get a job.

Some California Pizza Kitchen locations hire at 15 if it’s permitted under local laws. So, if that’s the case with your local restaurant, you could be hired as a host/hostess. Your job will be to seat guests and deal with waiting customers. Check with your local store to see if they hire at 15.

16. Subway

Subway is another one to check out. With more than 22,000 restaurants in the United States, you’re sure to find one near you. There are three in the town where I live!

Now, for some restaurants, you do have to be 16 to work there, but in some states their minimum hiring age is 15. There are entry-level positions available. You could work as a sandwich artist at your local Subway restaurant.

17. Culver’s

Culver’s is a fast-food chain that has more than 600 locations across the United Sates. Many of its restaurants are located in the Midwest. The company hires people as young as 14, so if you’re 15, you could get a job with the company. The type of work you do will depend on the position, but like with the other restaurants on this list, you’ll likely be responsible for things like serving customers and preparing food.

18. TacoTime

TacoTime is a fast-food restaurant chain that specializes in Mexican food. The chain has more than 200 locations in the United States.

While the minimum hiring age at TacoTime is usually 16 years old, there are exceptions to this in some states. So, in some places the minimum hiring age is 15 years old. Just check with your nearest restaurant for jobs.

19. Zaxby’s

Next on the list we have Zaxby’s. There are 913 locations in the United States, with 242 locations, or 26% of all Zaxby’s locations in America, in Georgia.

For many locations, the hiring age is 16 years old. However, in certain locations, Zaxby’s hires at 15. Just check with your local restaurant to determine what the hiring age is for the restaurant.

Grocery Stores that Employ 15 Year Old Kids

Another place that hires at 15 are grocery stores. Lots of grocery stores hire younger workers do to everything from stacking shelves to working at the register. Now, like I said above, rules vary from state to state, so it’s important to check with your local store to confirm their minimum hiring age.

In this section, I’ll cover grocery stores that have been known to hire at 15.

20. Winn-Dixie

Winn-Dixie has almost 500 locations across the country with stores in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Most stores have positions available for 15-year-olds. So, check with your nearest location to find out whether or not its hiring.

21. Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop has more than 400 stores throughout the United States. The areas it serves include New England, Downstate New York, and New Jersey. If you live in any of those areas, then you may have a Stop & Shop store near you.

There are lots of positions available like grocery clerk, bakery clerk, and floral clerk. Some locations, like stores in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, will hire 15-year-olds. Just call your local store to get more information on the hiring age for certain positions.

22. Giant Eagle

Giant Eagle has more than 200 locations in the United States, with most of its stores being located in Ohio, and others in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Indiana.

The store employees 15-year-olds – and 14-year-olds too!

Jobs can include working at the deli, shopping cart attendant, bakery clerk, or shelf-stacking. Check with your local store for openings and age requirements for employees.

23. Giant Food

Giant Food has more than 160 locations in the United States, mostly in the Eastern United States, with stores in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. The store hires 15-year-olds. You can find a variety of different jobs here, like deli clerk, floral associate, cake decorator, cashier, bagger, and shelf-stacker.

24. Kroger

Kroger is a popular grocery retailer with more than 2,700 locations throughout the United States. The company does hire at 15 in certain states where state laws allow it. Just check with your local store to see what their age requirements are for employees. Now, if you do find work at your local Kroger, roles can include bagger and stocker.

25. Safeway

Next on the list we have Safeway. There are more than 800 Safeway locations across the United States. My husband worked in Safeway when he was 16 years old, but the company actually hires younger than that. For some positions, Safeway hires 14 and 15-year-olds.

You won’t be able to work in all areas of the store – I remember my husband saying that employees under a certain age were not allowed to work on the liquor department in the store he worked at. But, there are plenty of roles available, like grocery bagger, shelf-stacker, and cashier.

26. Publix

Next on the list we have Publix. It’s a supermarket chain with more than 1,200 locations throughout the country. Most of its locations, more than 800, are located in Florida, where the company’s headquarters are. It also has locations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. It hires at 15, with roles available like clerk, bagger, cashier, and service desk clerk.

27. Wegmans

Next on the list is Wegmans. It’s a regional supermarket chain that has 104 stores across the country. It has stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. So if you live in one of those states, you could have a Wegmans store near you. It is one of the largest private companies in the country with 52,000 employees. And, Fortune has named it one of the “Top 100 Companies to Work For.”

You could get a job at 15 at your local Wegmans. The store doesn’t hire 15-year-olds on every department though, so do keep that in mind. Also, the age minimum can be older than 15 in certain states. So check with your local store to find out what opportunities, if any, are available to 15-year-olds.

28. Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee ranks among the top 25 supermarket chains in the United States. It has more than 260 supermarkets throughout the country with stores located in eight Midwestern states. States where you’ll find Hy-Vee stores include Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

The minimum age to work at most Hy-Vee stores is 16. However, some stores hire as young as 14 because many Hy-Vee stores are independently operated and are able to set their own policy. Just ask at your local store what the age requirements are for employees.

29. Harvey’s

There are 46 Harvey’s supermarket locations in the United States, so not quite as many as the other stores on this list. But, you could have a store near you. 29 Harvey’s locations, which is 63% of all Harvey’s locations in the US, are in Georgia.

If you have a Harvey’s store near you, then you could find work as a bagger, cashier associate, or grocery associate.

While many stores only hire people who’re 18 years old or older, some stores do hire at 15. Just check with your local Harvey’s store to find out what jobs, if any, are available to 15-year-olds.

30. King Soopers

Another grocery store that hires 15-year-olds is King Soopers. Now, this store isn’t like the others in that pretty much all of its locations are found in just one state – Colorado.

King Soopers has 117 stores in the United States, and 116 of them are in Colorado. King Soopers is actually a supermarket brand of Kroger that’s located in the Rocky Mountains, where it has a significant present on the eastern slope. So if you live in Colorado, then consider working at King Soopers. Like Kroger, King Soopers also hires at 15. You could work as a courtesy clerk at your local store.

Entertainment Venues that Give Jobs to 15 Year Olds

Entertainment venues, like movie theaters, also hire teenagers. So, they can be a good option if you’re looking to make some extra money.

31. AMC Theatres

With more than 380 locations, AMC Theatres is another place that you may want to consider for work. This can be a fun job if you love movies.

In some states, AMC Theatres hires 15-year-olds, and even 14-year-olds. The theater offers lots of jobs, like ticket selling, being an usher, working at the snack bar, cleaning, and ticket collecting.

Check with your local theater to see whether they have any job openings for 15-year-olds.

32. Hershey’s Chocolate World

Hershey’s Chocolate World is located in the same complex as Hersheypark. But, both operate independently of each other. Hersheypark is owned by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company (HE&R), and Hershey’s Chocolate World is owned by The Hersey company. However, the Hershey Company and HE&R are both owned by the Hershey Trust Company.

Since Hershey’s Chocolate World and Hersheypark are operated independently, and have separate websites, I’ve listed them separately.

Hershey’s Chocolate World hires candidates aged fifteen years and older. But, the minimum age requirement varies depending on the position. You can view the age requirement on the job posting.

You get lots of benefits like a 50% discount on food, discounted candy, free admission to most attractions and discounted rates for friends and family, a sweet treat on your birthday, and free drinks and one free meal per shift for Food Service employees.

33. Hersheypark

Hersheypark is a family theme park that’s located in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Hersheypark hires at 15. It even has a section of jobs just for 14 to 15 year-olds. You get lots of benefits too, like free admission to Hersheypark, free tickets for family and friends, and discounts at Hersheypark. There are jobs available in lots of different fields like retail and food and beverage, as well as lifeguard jobs.

34. Six Flags

Six Flags is the world’s largest regional theme park company with 26 parks across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Many locations hire people who’re 15. You won’t qualify for every job in the park at 15, but there are lots of options available.

You could be a game attendant, a food service employee, and lots of other roles. The jobs offered vary from location to location and from season to season.

Other Places that Hire 15-year-olds

Okay, so above, I’ve given you lots of companies that hire at 15. Those certainly aren’t your only options for finding work as a teenager though.

Most cities have entertainment venues, attractions, or events that aren’t operated by the major companies that I’ve included on the list of places that hire at 15 above.

So, your city probably has tons of places that hire those who’re younger than 16.

And in this section, I want to cover lots more places that’ll hire you at 15.

The options that are available will depend on your local area.

The best part about working for these types of companies is that they can offer work based on your availability.

Businesses You Can Start at 15

Okay, so the above places hire at 15 and they can offer some great employment opportunities. For making some extra cash when you’re a teenager, they’re great. But, they are certainly not your only option.

You could also consider starting your own business where you offer a service or sell something. While it can require a little more work upfront than simply applying for a job from one of the companies listed above, it can end up making you more money. Plus, there are other benefits to starting a business, like:

• You can control how much money you make.
• You can choose the hours that you work – so you can work when it suits your schedule.
• You can work as little or as often as you want to.
• If you stick with it, you could have started a successful business at a young age that can make you extra money you could save for college or whatever endeavors you have planned for the future.

Here are some low cost business ideas for teenagers…

61. Cleaning

You could earn $13 an hour as a house cleaner.

Since people are busy, they just don’t have the time to clean their homes themselves. So they hire a cleaner to do it for them.

You could offer a cleaning service to people or even businesses in your area. You can advertise your services on Facebook, for example, or by word of mouth. Since you’re probably used to doing chores at home at home anyway, you might as well make some cash out of it, right?

62. Selling crafts

If you are good at making crafts (unlike me!) then consider selling them at local craft shows or other events, like flea markets. Or just sell them to people nearby. You could advertise your stuff online. As many craft shows are held at the weekend, it’s a great side business to fit alongside school.

63. Babysitting

Offer babysitting services to your parent’s friends and colleagues. You could ask your parents to tell people they know that you are looking for babysitting work. You could make from $8 to $17 an hour as a babysitter.

You can also find babysitting jobs online, but most are for people over 18 years old. An exception is a site called Bambino Sitters. On Bambino Sitters, you can find babysitting jobs. The site allows people as young as 13 to sign up as a caregiver, but they have to get the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

64. Window cleaning

People always need someone to clean their windows, so offering a window cleaning service to people in your area can be a good option.

Plus, the startup costs for this one are pretty low. You could offer your services to homeowners in your neighborhood, and even branch out to cleaning windows for local businesses. You could earn $15 an hour from window cleaning.

65. Pet-sitting

If you have pets of your own, have looked after pets for family members, or just love animals, then you may want to give pet-sitting at try. Pet-sitters take care of people’s pets, like dogs and cats, while they’re out of the house. All you need to do is show the pet owner that you are responsible and reliable. You can advertise your services to people in your neighborhood, or tell your parents to let their friends, coworkers, and the rest of the family that you are looking for pet-sitting work.

66. Dog walker

You could make $14 an hour as a dog walker. Since people are often busy with work and family, the don’t have the time to walk their dog, and that’s where you can come in an solve their problem, while, of course, making money! Offer your services as a dogwalker to people in your neighborhood. You could also ask your parents to tell their friends and the rest of your family that you are offering a dog walking service.

If you do a great job, then you could get referrals.

67. Retail arbitrage

This is a business idea that could continue to make you money through college and even beyond!

Basically, retail arbitrage is just a fancy term for buying stuff and selling it for a profit.

You buy discounted items at places like:

• The thrift store
• The dollar store
• Clearance section of any store
• TJ MAXX
• Marshall’s
• Ross

And you look out for sales where you can get stuff at low prices. Also, you can purchase things for cheap prices online on sites like Craigslist and OfferUp.

You can then resell items online or in-person and make a profit.

68. Online tutoring

You could offer a tutoring service to people in your neighborhood. Let people know about your service and consider advertising your tutoring services online. You can even consider tutoring online.

69. YouTube

Maybe you’re looking for a business idea that you could do from home? Well, then you might want to consider editing or creating YouTube videos for businesses. Many businesses would love to create or edit marketing videos, but they just don’t have the time.

So, you could offer a video editing or creation service to local businesses, or you could advertise your services online. All you need is a fast computer, the right software, and of course some great video-making and editing skills!

Now, you could also consider starting your own YouTube channel. This can become a fulltime income.

Many successful YouTubers started their channels when they were less than 16 years old.

So you could try starting your own YouTube channel. It could be based around something you enjoy, like Minecraft, or hobbies that you have.

Once you get enough views, you can become a YouTube Partner, and make money from the ads on your videos.

However, you the YouTube Partner program pays through AdSense and you can’t actually get an AdSense account until you are 18. That being said, if you are under 18 years old, you can still monetize your videos by linking your YouTube account to an approved AdSense account of a parent or guardian who is over 18.

You can also make money by partnering with brands to create sponsored content.

Although YouTube is pretty vague about what its content creators actually earn, figures online suggest that for every 1,000 views their videos get, YouTubers earn from $0.25 to $7. And you get paid through your AdSense account.

70. Sell on Etsy

Consider selling stuff on Esty. This could be vintage items that you find at the thrift store or even crafts that you’ve made! If you’re good at painting or drawing, you could sell artwork on there. The site is mostly focused on handmade, refurbished, and antique items.

People over the age of 13 can use Esty, but anyone under 18 years old must get the permission and direct supervision of their parent or legal guardian who is the owner of the account.

If you can get your parent’s or legal guardian’s approval, then all you need are some great products to sell!

Etsy does charge you $0.20 to list an item for sale, and it charges fees when your items sell too.

71. Yard work/Landscape Labor

Lawn moving is an option that many teens consider, but federal child labor laws prohibit 15-year-olds from operating lawn mowers, lawn trimmers, and weed cutters.

A good alternative is to offer more general yard work and landscape labor. So, this could be things like watering plants, pulling out weeds, power-washing concrete areas, and maintaining fences. Let people in your neighborhood know that you’re offering to do yard work and landscape labor.

72. Pool cleaning

If you live in an area that’s warm and people have a lot of pools, then you could offer a pool cleaning service. It’s a good way to spend more time outdoors during the summer, and you can set your own pay rates, within reason of course!

73. Laundry Service

Why not provide a laundry service to people nearby? Lots of people don’t have the time to do it themselves and would be glad to get the help! You could advertise your services in the paper and in neighborhood Facebook groups. And you could also ask your friends and family to put the word out for you about your laundry service.

74. Errand service

Again, people are busy, and they may not have the time to run errands with work or family commitments. Here’s where you can come in and make a profit!

You could make money doing errands for people such as picking up their dry cleaning or going to the store to pick something up. Let people in your neighborhood know that you’re offering an errand service. You could ask your parents to let their friends and the rest of the family know that you are offering to do errands too.

75. Fiverr

Consider offering services like graphic design or video editing on Fiverr. Fiverr is an online marketplace where freelancers can make money selling services. You can sell lots of different services through Fiverr, as there are more than 200 categories featured on the site.

The best part is that you can set your own rates for your services. You can charge anywhere from $5 to $10,000 for a service. Fiverr does get a 20% cut of your income though.

76. Start a blog

If you like writing and are passionate about a particular subject, like fashion, photography, baking, or fishing, then consider starting a blog on the topic.

You can use WordPress.org to publish content and get a domain name and hosting from sites like Bluehost, HostGator, and GoDaddy.

If you don’t have the cash to pay for a domain name or hosting, try WordPress.com (but you can’t use AdSense ads or ads from any third-party ad network on your site) or Blogger.

Both are free. But your domain will include the name of the site, like “www.myblog.wordpress.com” or “myblog.blogspot.com.” If you pay for a domain and hosting, your site URL will be “www.myblog.com.”

Choose a topic, do some keyword research, and upload some great content to your blog on a consistent basis. You won’t make money right away, but you can build up a following and then make money creating sponsored content for brands, affiliate marketing, or with ads on your site.

77. Shoveling snow

Offer to shovel snow for people in your neighborhood. This can be good way to make some extra money. Just advertise your services to people nearby.

78. Car washing

Offer a car washing service to people near you. People always need their car washing, so this can be a good way to pick up some extra cash.

79. Painting

Offer to paint people’s houses – this could be the interior or the exterior depending on your skillset. Just advertise to people in the area.

Reward & Survey Sites for Kids 14-15 & Up

If you’re just looking to make a little extra cash – maybe you want that sweater you saw at the mall, a game from the Xbox store, or that perfume you saw on Amazon? Whatever the case, if you want a little extra money to spend, then consider joining some survey sites and reward sites.

Survey websites pay you for taking online surveys. You don’t need any particular qualifications or experience to get started.

Reward websites offer surveys too, but also lots of other ways to make money like watching videos and shopping online – you know, stuff you already do anyway, right?

So, they’re really great for making money.

The best part about survey and reward sites it that you can do tasks with them right from your computer or phone.

Now, not all survey sites and reward sites allow 15-year-olds to join. Many have an age requirement of 18 years old. However, there are some out there that allow people as young as 13 to sign up.

Swagbucks is open to anyone who’s 13 or older. The site gives you points for doing tasks like shopping online, playing games, watching videos, and taking surveys. The best part is that it offers lots of different payment options like PayPal and gift cards to retailers like Amazon. And, you can withdraw your earnings for as little as $1!

81. InstaGC

You can join InstaGC at as young as 13 years old, as long as you have parental consent. InstaGC pays you for doing things like taking surveys and watching videos. You can withdraw your earnings for as little as $1 to $5. And you can get paid by PayPal or get a gift card. With more than 300 gift card options available, including ones for Amazon, Pizza Hut, and iTunes, there are plenty to choose from!

82. SurveySavvy
